NOS Shimano XTR M900 crankset

Wowzer

You could buy a used one, polish it to within an inch of it's life, stick some new decals on and pimp it out with fancy coloured ano bits and STILL have change for the matching mechs.

Retrobikes make people crazy!

first ride, rock flicks up, shoe buffs decal, take 450 dollars depreciation off purchase price....

Is that really much different than the top of the line crank at this link? Both top of the line cranks and at least you get a third chainring with the XTR crank  Guess it's all about perspective. I'm guessing the guy at pb bikes knows there aren't many left floating around NOS and has probably seen some of the prices some have recently sold at.

Maybe it's not that different, or maybe it is, but I think that these very high prices for nos stuff, especially xtr cranks seems to have become much more common. And even though both are top of the line cranks, you do get a better one for the money, performance-wise, with the modern one.. Then again our retro-hobby isn't all that much about performance as it is about something else. Don't know, perhaps these nos prices will be, or has already become, the new norm, although they seem through the roof right now. Nos xtr cranks are getting rarer by the month like you say...although I'm sure german collectors are still sitting on a big load of them :)

Seriously? All you'd be left with is a polished turd with worn out chainrings. I suppose it would be all right if the bikes not a rider.
