Hmmm so reading between the lines there did suntour become esp which became sram? I have esp on my Sunn, just assumed it was some euro brand.

No SRAM needed components to compliments its GripShift range, they started the ESP range (first mechs snapped iirc) then needed more parts and manufacturing and acquired Sachs and the components merged. SRAM now had a groupset. It was the start of what is now on modern bikes. They where bought in 1997 by the way.

I think a lot of SRAM and Sachs was already made together using similar stuff hence not a difficult integration. (Or thereabouts, try disraeligears or SRAM website for history)

SR Suntour is a different company and still going.
