NOS merckx steel frames (lots of)

Re:

Hi mate
There is no way that one I linked to above is a 'pukka' corsa extra and the fact it looks like no Merckx I have ever seen. A Corsa Extra is a specific model with specific features of which that one linked has none, its not even a lugged frame. It may be the odd one out or a mistake made in translation or something but its more than enough to arouse suspicion. There is also another corsa listed that has what look to be Max tubing tapering into the bottom bracket, definately not a corsa. May be another model but whatever it is it isn't a corsa. I'm trying to be open to being wrong or misunderstanding the guy but to be honest what he is advertising some of these frames as is wrong, whether its just the model or if its the manufacturer is open to debate.
Frame numbers on most frames let alone a Merckx would be easy enough as its only letters and numbers and the registry is open so you can just put the letters on that say its a corsa and then put on numbers that aren't listed. The old Meisse factory is no longer with us and so the factory list of numbers is no longer available.
Have a look at the model names he is advertising and then google search the model.

Just to for comparison here is the one listed above against the details of my own Corsa Extra purchased through the factory in Meisse.

No lugs?

Lugs

Seat stay top caps and seat stay binder?

Bottom bracket doesn't look right either.

I've contacted Merckx a few times about frames and they do indeed have comprehensive frame number records from Meisse. You buy it, you check the serial number against known manufacture, if it's not right you send it back via PayPal returns. It costs you nothing.

Maybe it's not worth it with these unpainted frames, maybe it is to the right buyer. Time will out!!

Also, if they were not right, I'm finding it hard to believe anyone could source a supply of genuine Merckx Bottom bracket shells, rear ends, seat stay caps, fork crowns and brake bridges and then go to all the trouble of chroming them. The profit simply wouldnt be in it, to try to build fakes. And if they were, even a hint, Eddy Merckx people would shut this sale down in an instant for forgery.

EBay are very very hot on rip offs.

Re:

I hear what your saying Donny Dee but I am positive that the one I put the pictures up of is no Corsa Extra. It has features that have not been seen on other Merckxs, let alone a Corsa Extra.
The other one does look like a MX leader, but judging by his descriptions on some I wouldn't trust it on face value.
I also dont think its too hard to engrave a bottom bracket shell.
You are right that someone may well think they are worth it, but to me, without verification from the seller I certainly wouldn't buy one of these at face value.
There are plenty of non genuine stuff on ebay and I generally find that ebay are only bothered if you are willing to complain about loud enough or a company complains.
These aren't exactly bargains either.
Dont get me wrong, they may well be genuine Merckxs, but I wouldn't blindly say its genuine because the guys an ex mechanic and they must be genuine because nobody would bother knocking one off.
If the one in the pictures in my post was a nice but average frame then most here probaly would never have looked twice at it but because its a Merckx Corsa extra then there is a lot of interest and a much higher price. It could even be a nice SLX frame that handles better than a Corsa.
