Popped in to the Masi workshop today that's inside the walls of the Milan Vigorelli Velodrome and apart from an incredible hour of talking with Masi Jr (he's not that Jr either) discovered this NOS frame his dad made for Merckx but was never ridden.

More pics to follow when I get a chance, but wanted to share here anyway.

More to follow...

Re: NOS Faema Merckx Masi at the Masi workshop

Been a long time since I've seen slotted chainstays :)

Re:

That is what 'close clearance' looked like before piccolo brakes. blocks right at the top of the slots on the 'standard reach' calipers, except they probably weren't called that back then.

Fwiw, my research into the 're-introduction' of braze-ons in the early seventies peloton produced a lot of trails that seemed to lead back to messrs. Masi. None of that in evidence on this one though. I guess the NR gruppo was still too much of a novelty at that time to start
dispensing with the bands.. plus if it has got slotted chainstays it probably also has some ridiculously light gauge tubing..

A thing of beauty.
The slotted stays look like a work of art on this one.
A bit of air in the tyres and it looks good to go ;)
