I have just started a new job with a recruitment agency unloading lorries and this is my first ever nightshift work and was wondering if there Are any techniques to getting a full eight hours sleep during the day as at the moment I'm only seeming to get about 3 hours or so
Thank-you

Unless you feel shagged out then don't go to bed straight away

remember very few daylight people go to bed at 5pm. I used to do chores, odd jobs, shopping etc then around lunch time go na nights and yes..dark curtians and ear plugs do work

depends also if you live alone

Beer. A few minutes winding down on RB, no food just beer and then zonk for about 6 hours. Was always tired and hated it.

6am beer was always class.

I've been working nights now for about 10 years, as said above blackouts and earplugs if needed, personally I go straight to bed after work and sleep untill I wake up (no need for alarms) I like having a good useable few hours between waking up and going back to work, but you'll just have to see what works best for you.
My brother likes to stay up till around lunch time and get up with an alarm an hour before work like working days,
my bestest mate goes to bed as soon as he gets home then gets up at lunch then has another couple of hours in the evening (but he's just awkward)

First day get up as usual, have a big lunch and take a nap in the afternoon for an hour or so. Then do your night shift.
I used to eat at 8am, then go to bed, sleeping through until 3 or 4 pm.

After the last night shift, get yourself up at around 1pm, then make sure you go outside and get some daylight to drag your body clock round again.

But definitely as you got older it became far more difficult to shift body clock. I was in my 20's, the guys I worked with in their 40'sand 50's looked like death by the end of the week.

Ive worked nightshift for 2 years now & its still a killer..

10pm - 6am mon-thurs & friday 4pm-9pm which is awful

My mrs goes to work at 7am so i take daughter to nursery at 7.30, in bed for 8 and up about 3-4pm

I use an eyemask which totally blacks everything out and now and again earplugs..

I find the multicoloured Howard Leight ones the best..

Now and again I have a cheeky can of beer before bed & then I'm a gonner..

Try to get as much sunlight as possible at weekends or whenever you can as your body is missing out on the rays..

Hope this helps..

If all else fails ....... DRINK !!
