I'd highly recommend the Isle Of Wight although it is a bit over the 2 hours distance you're looking for, probably closer to 3hrs from you, and then you have the ferry to deal with... Well worth the extra distance if you want to be surrounded by the sea 
Nodes Point is where to go. It's a stones throw from Bembridge Harbour and some awesome unspoilt coastline. You could almost roll out of your sleeping bag down the hill and straight onto the sand, it's great. Can't get much better for location either being possibly the best spot on the island for camping, the reason i've been going there to the same place for the last 18 years. It is getting more expensive there now though but worth it for the experiences.
You can't beat having a beach fire late at night!.. The boy will love it
