Me and the boy want to do a bit of bonding and camping for a few days.....can anyone suggest something near the sea thats not more than a couple of hours from me?
I'm near Stansted airport.....

Ideally, a beach top camp site with places to ride the bike, eat and a pub would be nice

Any suggestions??

Hire a canoe(excercise!) or small dayboat(outboard!).
Motor up the Thames.
Camp on the various islands and campsites, ranging from ones with facilities to wild camping in nothing at all. If you start somewhere like Oxford they start getting more remote and interesting the further into the Cotswolds you go.

I could think of nothing that would be more swallows-and-amazons style lovely. Lots of fresh air, and best of all it will cost you buttons.

From Stansted, and not suggesting for a second that Chris' option doesn't sound great, the East Anglian coast has to be the best option for the sea...

I'd avoid here (Jaywick/Clacton - don't remember any camping site and the seafront areas aren't very safe after dusk), and Essex (and most of Suffolk too, actually  ).. but further round/up would be groovy..

I'd plump for Norfolk too.... 8)
