Nice coloured Klein

How tall?

I love that colour...

But how far do you think the seat post is inserted into the frame?
Does it extend below the seat tube junction?

Like you, I instinctively feel that the post should be inserted beyond the top tube junction, but thinking about it I'm not sure why I feel that way. After all, the seat tube is a complete tube, it doesn't have any weakness at the top tube junction. So I'm not sure really that there's a logical case for the minimum insertion to have anything to do with the length of the seat tube extension or the position of the top tube junction.

It does *look* weak though on the eBay bike, doesn't it?

The post really SHOULD extend approximately 1 inch below the top tube junction, so that the rider's weight doesn't act as a lever and snap the top off the un-supported seat tube extension.

The Gary Fisher warranty department recently learned this lesson with the Rig and X-Cal 29ers.
Try searching MTBR Forums for photos of the casualties. :(

They have long frames with VERY low standover height, so end up with long exposed seat posts with minimum frame insertion.

My Fisher is right on the limit with a 400mm seat post while still having safe post insertion (extends well below the lower edge of the top tube). Ideally I'd like my saddle half an inch higher but don't dare raise it...
