Newcastle?

Anyone from round that way? We're moving from Leeds to start working in Newcastle at the end of the summer and are weighing up prices of different places around there. So far we've signed up with these http://www.bridgfords.co.uk/forsaleoffi ... hields/344 as we saw the signs when we were up there, but we could do with some more.
Suggestions of other places to look would be good too, I don't know anything about that area, only Hebburn from watching Vic Reeves ;)
Cheers.

I live not too far away in Co Durham. Lots of choice in housing terms and apparently the best prices in England so your ££ goes further up here. You could look in the South Tyne or Derwent valleys if you fancy life a little more rural than above. Depending on your budget try Ryton, Rowlands Gill, or around Consett.

Close to town Gosforth and Jesmond are good places.. heading more towards Heaton and you head into Student territory. Further out of town Darras Hall thinks its posh. If you dont mind the commutte Wylam is nice and Corbridge is nice but expensive. The whole Tyne Valley is pretty and pretty expensive. Hexham and Morpeth are further but also both pretty nice.

I lived there most of the time growing up so know it well. Theres some great biking around there.

The girlfriend is from Durham - I've spent many moons in that area of the world, choose carefully, some of it is very nice and some of it is not.

Re:

We looked at Newcastle a couple of years ago but couldn't make the finances work out. We found houses similar to ours (London commuter belt) were actually dearer than down here - especially once you took the lower northern wages into account. Admittedly we were looking for a step up and didn't have a wage increasing job to go to but still.

The brother in law lives in morpeth and the parents in law just outside darras hall so would agree with the other poster that mentioned them.

Gosforth and similar places are not cheap though.

I live 3 mile from the city centre....love Newcastle.

Prices vary hugely regardless off the closeness or quiet bits too.....so definitely do your homework.

Re:

GF is about to sell 2 bed house in Sunderland (decent area, 15 mins walk from huge sandy beach and good public transport via bus or metro into Nookie centre) if interested :xmas-big-grin:

Retrobike Does Location, Location, Location!

How do the sums add up for Newcastle in terms of appreciation?

We are currently looking at areas we like rather than investment potential. Puts a whole different spin on everything.
