Newbie with a Tom Avon barn find, and lots of questions...

Yeah he did build in the 60's but then built a few more i n the 80's before stopping. I have a gorgeous Tom Avon TA14 which i believe is the 14th frame he made in 84. Its all Dura Ace 4700 (put on by myselfseries and i love it. Im gonna sell it too!! Pics later. Amazing lugwork and lower cable routing. People will jump on me once it goes up. Get vready people. Later today. And by th e way, well done mate. Tom Avons are really rare. Get a good repair and respray and it will be a real head turner. If you ever want graphics/masks making, just ask. Im a designer and love restoring bikes to their former glory.

Re:

Hi, I was given a bike 25 years ago which my uncle called 'the Avon' ! Does anyone have any ideas how I can tell whether it is? It has no decals and I think it may have been re sprayed. A pic can be posted but haven't had time - cheers

Re:

take some photos of the bike especiall the bottom bracket area and the rear drop outs. have a look to see if there is a frame number on there and let us know

Re:

in the 80 s tom avon turned to making tandems and went into partnership with his brother to mass produce the wessex frames they were a off the peg setup not made to measure. he was based in the chessels bedminster bristol. he sold the shop in the 90's & it's now flats

Now that's what the crowd came to see, fastback, drilled vertical dropouts and designed for going against the clock :D

Re:

Hi, yes was definitely built for speed. I just got to weigh up the value of the bike against the £230 paint job and decals

Re:

Get it powdercoated instead. Harder wearing and cheaper. 40-80 pounds depending who you use.

I wonder who Stuart Francis is? A good thin powder coat can look nice and well worth doing ........ Or sell it to me :)

Dunno who he is either. It's my uncles bike, and we assume he had it made. I'm going down the like 4 like refurb. I don't want to compromise anything. I had confirmation that it is a Tom Avon and a rare one. Thanks for your interest and info.
