Newbie trying to identify carlton frame.

Hi,
I'm new to this forum so apologies if I'm posting in the wrong section. Recently I saved an old Carlton bike of my dads when he was going to throw it out and since I've been trying to identify it.

I looks pretty old and after searching over the frame I've found a number "S576" stamped into the left hand side rear drop out, the frame has been painted in a horrible metallic blue at some point. I believe the forks are from a different bike (and they don't appear to fit properly). My dad says he bought it around the early 70's after he snapped his previous frame (which i think all the running gear is off).

Also I don't quite understand the rear hub as it seems to be threaded on the other side as well as having the 5 speed cassette.

I'm sure someone who knows what they are talking about will be along soon, but in the interim..

I believe the S in the frame number makes it likely that it's a 1965 bike, or there abouts. An the hub looks like a "flip-flop" hub, for fixed gear on one side and freewheel on the other.

I have now learned that I believe the forks are off a Carlton Corsa Strada and the frame has Crespera "lugs" (the metal work covering the tube joints) used from '67 till '74 on a few of the Carlton Models.

I had a 1966 (I believe) Corsa Strada a couple of weeks ago with Crespera lugs.
I think you'll find your lugs are a little different to the Crespera lugs pictured, yours have little "fishtails" in the centre above the cutout windows. I think the forks are used on other Carlton models also.

I want to keep the forks and cranks obviously, where's the best place to get new (or very good condition) headset and bottom bracket? (compatible with the cranks and cotter pins). The fork steerer tube is 1" diameter, the frame head tube appears to be 29mm diameter. The bottom bracket is 70mm wide and has a 34mm diameter. These measurements are rough though and could be slightly out.

In the "for sale / wanted" sections on the bike forums, ebay or some online shops. Google has it all.

Nearly everything seems to be out there somewhere.

In the first picture it looks like the forks are bent back, may be worth getting checked out before spending loads of money on a rebuild.
