It's my size, I think it looks nice . . . .

I don't know anything about old bikes

Is it worth the money? Will I have to re-spray it? What work am I likely to need to do?

I'm confident I can take things apart, clean, re-grease etc. Is there much difference between a new bike and an old one?

Thanks, Pete

It's got 9 days left?

Stick it on your watch list and revisit it about 10 minutes before it ends.. if there's bids, its worth it.. if not.. well.. ignore the freehand text of the auction, look at the condition and spec sheet.
Is it worth 200 quid of your hard earned?

Forget the stuff about being a Milk Race bike - that's just complete fairytale stuff! Whilst it's decent quality, it's only a modified off-the-peg bitza with some low -mid range stuff on it - how many pros used 105 headsets?! Nothing about it suggests a pro's bike, including the stickers...

It looks as though it's had a fairly hard life, and it's about 24 years old, I'd say. Personally, I'd say it's slightly expensive, even at £200, but if you like it you might consider it reasonable value - it's not a complete rip off.

I agreed, the seller is spinning a yard and therefore there may be other things they're not being honest about. Pro riders of that era didn't generally ride 531 or Shimano 600 kit either. The bike is worth £150 tops.

Hmmm yes looks a bit too tired - rust on the frame etc So too expensive for what it is. Be patient and find another.

I doubt very much if Colin Lewis would ride a basic stock Peugeot. Anyway, he had retired from pro racing when this was built. Just because the owner lives near his shop means nowt. I lived near a Rolls Royce factory once but - well, you know......................

It looks reasonable but at a jumble it would probably go for around half what he's asking at most.

Thanks for the advice peeps

I will continue my search. I'm guessing that ebay isn't the best place to find a bargain unless you really know what you're looking for.

Well maybe but you could look on this website and also look up "retrospective cycles" and maybe Hilary Stone if you wnat an old classic.

Wimpy

... "There are a number of stickers on it and frankly no-one would put 'Wimpy' sticker on their cycle (the cafe chain from the 70's and 80's)."

I would, if I knew where to get one. I was happy with my old 70s/80s bikes until I saw that; now they feel incomplete.
