Newbie in need of help!

Very new to this but looking into getting my first retro!

I love the look of the Saracen Kili Racer that has been on here, and after searching the net for weeks, one has finally come onto eBay today!

It can be found here...

I'm just looking for an expert opinion on the bike?

It looks OK in condition, few parts need replacing etc...

Do you guys think it looks worth it?

Many thanks

Alex

Hi mate...welcome! Erm.... I love these frames and this one looks pretty originally spec'd but Im not sure about the Bin price, there are some real Saracen grease monkeys on here who can give you a first class opinion. Search the forum and you will find a saracen thread and also a few recent similar builds to give you an idea.

An awesome example!

A bit of a slack chain going on there.... ... Indicates a slack bike mechanic, and that feedback score would put me off.
Pretty poor condition, and probably worth about half that. I stand to be corrected though.

£450 would put me off too. May be £300ish tops I thought was ok for the age and lack of TLC. Needs oil on the chain. and the mech needs adjusting for starters oh grease the seat pin. Thats my 2p

Looks like something from the back of a garage. I suspect he trawls car boots or similar, bearing in mind he appears to have sold on a fair few bikes.

The bike looks neglected - seized seatposts / BBs / stems are things to worry about.

It's quite expensive TBH but a lovely bike, and I would buy it for less money. He's also taken that catalogue page from us, we spent ages searching for it.

Yeah the catalogue page has been taken directly from a resized version I cropped from Easy_Rider's original PDF and resized to upload to my website to include in my Kili-Racer build thread.

Anyway the bike in the eBay ad certainly isn't worth £450 IMO. Even if it was in mint condition I doubt it would be worth half that amount.

It looks to have lots of faults, like damaged decals, non original front mech, seat post, clamp and saddle. The right thumbie isn't good and although the rear tyre is a skinwall smoke the front z-max looks very ropey.
The wheels look to be the original ones, and as such the rear rim could be a bit worn.
I am a bit of a perfectionist though.

It does need work and I wouldn't pay more than £100 for that one.

And as for my nice shiney red e-stay:

Thanks Steve, not finished yet, still need to sort out the right wheels and seatpost for mine. Then I'll get the decals applied.

I was about to use drystonepaul as an example of how minty lush you can get them Kilis.

£450- too much for this one

State of bike- poor ( slack chain, rusted bolts, faded thumbies etc. )

Design of bike- quite beautiful

Keep looking and good luck mate!
