New Wheels

Going to need some new wheels for my forthcoming modernised SC Tazmon. I'm using Goldtec hubs on Mavic X517 at the minute, which I built up around 10 years ago.
The other new bits are tyres, forks, BB7 discs, low riser bars. So far nothing I have bought looks too out of place on a mid-ninties bike. The wheels will define whether it will be trying to look new or not.

Do I Buy:
- Hope Hoops XC-6 , reasonable money, good support, 'modern looking', light
- DT240 on Mavic(?) rims , similar money and support, traditional looking, not quite as light.
- Ringle Black Flag wheelset, cheap, light, no idea what sort of support I can expect in 5 years though.
- Anything else?

Why would I not buy the Ringles, which are cheaper for a pair from CRC than a rear Hope wheel?

Stumped. :?:

Personally I reckon your Goldtec wheels are better than all three of those options. DT hubs are overpriced, Hopes aren't what they used to be (bring back hubs with decent sized bearings please!) and those Ringle are probably cheap for a reason (probably just rebadged from the Far East).

at £180 for the set the ringles seem a damn good buy, probably gonna be better quality than an equivalent priced shimano wheelset.

consider your options first....i have a pair of new xt hubs laced onto new mavic rims by harry rowland.....they cost me £200 and are exquisitely built and utterly bomb proof, even for a fatty like me......you can see them here

they should last the lifetime of the bike and i dont feel the need to pamper them as i would with older wheels.....just a thought....
