So yesterday I decided it was about time to replace the tyres on my Orange P7, a pair of Panaracer Fire 1.8s wire bead, been on the bike since I built it in 1997 so long overdue, I'd just taken the suspension forks off for some tlc and new seals so thought a bigger tyre would go better with the rigid forks, just happened to have some smoke and dart 2 laid around which I bought new a couple of months ago for £10 a pair, (yes £10 a pair), so on they went, didn't look right from the off really but what the hell i'l use em at the weekend and see how they go.
Got in from nightshift this morning and gave them another good coat of looking at, still looked wrong!!
Got up five hours later and took them straight off, weighed them at about 650g, mmmm heavy, weighed the fires I'd taken off, about 495g mmmm not bad.
I visited the garage and liberated some Charge Splashback 1.8s from some wheels I've got shortlisted for my R8, lovely and light and tan walls to boot, broke 2 tyre levers fitting them, god they are tight, stood back and admired, yes that's far better, should have put them on in the first place!!!!
Lessons learned- you only get what you pay for (usually) and I don't like black tyres on my P7!!!
