New toy - 1990 GT Karakoram

There are a few bikes that I always said 'if I see one I'll buy it'. The 1990 Karakoram in Purple Haze paint is one of them - and this one appeared on Gumtree recently.

I've swapped the Araya wheels for a pair of anodised Ritchey Vantage Sport and NOS Ritchey Megabite Z-MAX, and the original black GT handlebar has come off to be repainted.

There are a few areas of touch up paint that need looking at - but all it really needs is waffle grips, a little tlc and lots of polish.

Hi, what are the grips, and where have you managed to get them from? Have been looking for ages for a nice pair of waffle grips. Would also love the '91 saddle with the studs at the back.

Thanks guys - glad you like it. Hopefully after a little polish and tlc (and new grips from racer x) it'll look even better.

I've got a pair of waffle grips coming from racerx (thanks for those rx) but I thought I'd also share these with you - A'ME BMX waffle grips, from Porkchop BMX. They look to be slightly more 'domed' in shape.

Being BMX grips, they have a large flange on the inner end. The plan is to trim that off so they look more like the original MTB grips fitted to the Karakoram in the '90 catalogue.

It'll be interesting to compare the two.
