NEW Ritchey Commando *WOW*

FYI GoldenEraMTB - that "dumb luck" has netted me 3 pre 85 fillet brazed Ritcheys for less than $400 total over the past 6 months.

Never ridden, yeah right. You can't tell me nobody ever took that bike around the block a time or two. That is like buying a Ferrari and never driving it.

don't worry- the pics on MtBr from when he bought it for $75 show that it has been ridden and there has been some work put into it to make it that good. A little dishonest to say it is new, never ridden wall art IMO. To say its his 'white whale' dream bike, he sure is cashing it in early. Just profiteering I guess which is at odds with his comments on 'outing' and 'any idiot can throw money at old bikes' A real genuine lover of old bikes then

Very nice bike though.
That was a different bike bro. RichieB scored the one that is a little more used looking. Fillet Brazed forever is the owner of the bike in the auction. And I was wrong it appears the bike was in fact never ridden. Either way it bad ass. And Richie may come off sounding like he is bragging Golden but he is really helpful and a pretty cool guy just like you are. You are right though, leg work or not he is the luckiest guy I know of.

My apologies RichieB. My comment was based on what was written in the previous few posts and comparing the pics of the bikes viewed on the very small screen of an Iphone. I should be more careful before jumping to conclusions. It's just the profiteering that can go on kinda pisses me off sometimes.

Cheers

The post was in reply to other posts about outing and all the crappy bikes people had been buying for $150 and bragging about on MTBR.

It wasn't luck...I work hard for all the bikes I buy. It takes a lot of work and time to find bikes like that.

Sure, I was bragging about the bike I found, but there is more to the story than just that.

And, for the record, I'm betting most of you would have thought it was worth mentioning that you'd only paid $75...you may not admit it now, but you would.

You assume incorrectly, I would not have bragged about fleecing someone for their vintage ritchey, but to go even further, I would not have fleeced them in the first place. I would've informed them that they could get a lot more for their bike, and I would have made a better offer having informed them, and if they would've agreed, i would still have a great bike at a good price without feeling like a jerk (not saying that you are a jerk- I don't know you, but that's how I would feel if I took a guy for his commando). As an added bonus, there would be no need to hide a "shitfaced smile" because I would not have one.

I know I would do this because I just did something like this with a 1991 litespeed titanium bike. I could've had it for $100, but after explaining to the guy, an old man with little understanding of the internet, and much less vrc forums, that it was worth more than that, he put it up for much more, and got closer to what it was worth. He had a couple extra parts lying around the garage that he gave to me for free; I refused, but he insisted, and I was happy to find a couple cool parts.

So do I want a cookie, no, well maybe if it has M&M's, but seriously, it's my opinion, and you logging on to retrobike, the home of outing vrc bikes haha, just to defend your thread over on the VRC doesn't change my mind a bit.

btw, I knew the commandos are different; I was strictly writing about yours, not pilgrim century's mint commando. That dude won't get fleeced by you, or so it appears. I hope he gets top dollar for his bike. He has sold a bunch of nice rides over the past year...I have no idea why, but I digress.

why use quotation marks around the word dumb...never used the word dumb, just luck, and pure at that.

Remove luck from the equation, and you wouldn't be able to make that claim of three fb ritcheys over the past six months for $400. If you say otherwise, we'll just disagree- simple. I'm not claiming that you don't spend hours looking, many, if not most of us do, yet we don't turn up with $75 commandos.

Now the question is...do you want a cookie, well, do ya?

I would love to say more but 5+Tecate and 2 margaritas will not let me,but my thoughts exactly! :D :D
If searching google is considered hard work then I would be a millionaire. :)

'Knowing better'

Folk may differ but personally i could'nt afford to give somebody $75 for a period Ritchey, i'd be guilty in a court of law of knowing better and should anything be amiss with the lot then it would be deemed that i very obviously knew.....and that ain't a good wicket except for the double daft mob. Nice bike, awfull paint scheme.

I could use a few of those drinks, and it's only 1 in the afternoon...it was a rough night/morning.

I figure if you are pretty sure the bike isn't stolen, pay what the person wants. Willing seller + willing buyer = all good.
