NEW Ritchey Commando *WOW*

ritchey

When I was 19 in 1987, I went and bought a Cannondale SM800 and was thrilled with my buy. A couple of weeks later my riding buddy shows up with a Ritchey Commando just like this one. I ask him how much it cost and was stunned when he said $2000. I hadn't realized that bikes could cost that much. He got bored with riding the next year and sold it. I always admired that Commando but haven't seen one in the last 21 years.

Where did he get it "appraised"?

That said...I love it, and would buy it in a minute if the funds were available :D

Wasn't there a similar vintage Ritchey that fetched 2799 a couple weeks back?

I believe that one was older by at least 5 years.

 same here...when I was a kid I thought the lbs major brands were pricey and the top...then I saw a Rictchey and a fat chance, and how much they cost :o

Wonder why pilgrim century has sold off all his nice bikes...he's sold a bunch of them on ebay over the past year.

The more I look at this bike the more I want to buy it...so this is the last time I visit this thread...maybe

This is the kind of thing that makes you sick yet happy at the same time.
http://forums.mtbr.com/showthread.php?t ... t=commando

the main part I don't like is that the OP writes as if there was more to it than pure luck..."legwork" my ass.

So you get a steal of a deal, fine, but then to brag about how you took someone to the cleaners to get it...bernie would approve.

What would be so wrong with just posting the bike as the new pick-up, and state you got a great deal? But then he would miss out on all the other like minded men stating:

You're the Man!

...so mostly made me sick, but the pics of the commando made me happy

Never ridden, yeah right. You can't tell me nobody ever took that bike around the block a time or two. That is like buying a Ferrari and never driving it.

don't worry- the pics on MtBr from when he bought it for $75 show that it has been ridden and there has been some work put into it to make it that good. A little dishonest to say it is new, never ridden wall art IMO. To say its his 'white whale' dream bike, he sure is cashing it in early. Just profiteering I guess which is at odds with his comments on 'outing' and 'any idiot can throw money at old bikes' A real genuine lover of old bikes then

Very nice bike though.

The post was in reply to other posts about outing and all the crappy bikes people had been buying for $150 and bragging about on MTBR.

It wasn't luck...I work hard for all the bikes I buy. It takes a lot of work and time to find bikes like that.

Sure, I was bragging about the bike I found, but there is more to the story than just that.

And, for the record, I'm betting most of you would have thought it was worth mentioning that you'd only paid $75...you may not admit it now, but you would.

O, and Dr. S ...those are two different bikes...Mine is in Permanent Collection mode...not on Ebay...I'm trying to complete a set. You could tell they were different bikes and completely different years if you really liked vintage mountain bikes.
