I actually sold my old Orange Prestige back in 93. And thats where my MTBing ended really, so its quite good to see an old friend re released.

I got mine as i was not far from the fatory, I never did find out if it was a Clockwork or Prestige, It needed a touch up with satin matt black aerosol and chose Prestige stickers naturally! :D 8)

It was sold on to make way for a Dyno Compe, now early 'midskool' BMX, and booze, and yes sometimes together.

What a pity, It was an awesome bike, tonnes lighter and springier/faster than my GT Tequesta. And I was pretty keen on riding and keeping fit.

Not sure if I'll rush out and go back to the past, theres no denying it could be fantastic on some Pace's or Rock shox! 8)

Soz if I've made a repost :)

Interesting that manufacturers are cottoning on to both bike niches (fixies etc) and the retro generation and the potential of all that that means.

I like it. Neat looking frame. Shame it's disc only, but i suppose that was innevitable.

:D

As Wu-Tangled says, this is no doubt a great bike but it isn't really a retro bike in anything other than its name. As said, it is disc-only and also it has modern geometry for 100-130mm forks. It does remind us though that Tange still makes Prestige tubing, even if it has been a bit neglected by most framebuilders in recent years.

the way i look at re issue frames in a retro style is, this is what the frame would have become if they'd changed them year on year, so i think disc only isn't a problem, take the p7 it evolved from being an xc bike into more of a trail bike, it's just evolution of a style i think! :D

that's my 2p's worth! :D

I don't have an issue with disc only modern retakes on old school bikes - but the 130mm fork geometry gets me

I'm with you there.

130mm forks on a hardtail frame. What's that all about.
The geometry must go all over the place, I struggle to cope with the long travel setting on the RC36s. :?

Not really on the hardtails, i have the new p7 and it rides pretty damn good. Lets you get away with alot more stuff and you find that it encourages you to hit the harder lines and more challenging obstacles.

Yep totally agree... Dont get this at all

Orange say the frame is 'optimised' for 100mm, and both the builds they offer come with 100mm forks. That seems pretty par for the course with modern XC hardtails?

I guess the 130mm bit is an acknowledgement that people do fit longer travel forks to their bikes. You can't blame Orange for catering to market forces, think of it as them cynically daring to try and turn a profit
