New Job!! Right, now where to bike?? Oxfordy area

Have the road bikes, so quite pleased there seem to be some good road rides too.

I am well up for the Woburn 6' tailwips too 8) :?

Just been down at the weekend for some more exploring and pretty set on the villages arround Bicester/Buckingham. Really nice area.

Lanes look great for the road bike, and I have never seen so many bridleways. May need a 4x4 in winter mind... :D

Just need to find somewhere to rent that can house 12 bikes and a gym now, then sorted

Might I suggest Didcot?

Cheap (well, cheap for Oxfordshire), handy for Abingdon and not nearly as bad as it looks. It's like the Oxfordshire I grew up in, rather than the parody of London some parts of it now feel like.

No-one our age lives in the town I grew up in anymore, or much of Oxfordshire. One of the reasons I now live on a boat. :(

As for riding, many opportunities. Lots of bridlepaths, the Ridgeway like JeRkY mentioned and little Cotswold villages are all within reach to the east. To the west, lots of woodland.

If you're moving soon and fancy a ride/day on the water, I will be passing through Oxford on my way to my new life oop north in about three weeks time. I would be happy to show you a little teensy bit of the county.

How many beds? And I'll keep my eyes open for you......

Wantage was a nice little market town, nice pubs and uber handy for the ridgeway, also a stones throw from Abingdon. Didders (didcot) is where I used to work, it has its nice bits and it is also on the mainline to the Southwest/south wales and London, so handy if you fancy heading to cwmcarn the bristol bike jumble or London. The A34 is one of the main routes north/south in the county and is easy to access from abingdon, wantage and didcot. If you are planning to pickup the ridgeway at any point, check out the wheatsheaf at east hendred, nice pub, great food, good beers in a stunning choclate box village.

Lived there for a year just over 10 years ago now.
Loved it. Stayed in 2 villages (Woodstock and Cassington/Eynsham out side of there for a bit and then in Oxford) and commuted on said yellow/red bike a lot that was to Long Hanborough, the Witney side of Oxford.

you can use the canal paths to get around on bike and avoid a lot of the roads.

But is was pretty flat though lovely for bimbles out.

So how many bike do you need to be able to store, first things first ?

Ha ha!
Thanks squiffy!

Looking in the Fringford area, not too specific just yet, also looking in the Bartons/Heyford area to west of M40. Woodstock maybe ok too if nice place.

Thanks for offer of eyes out Steve.. I need a 4 bed house with garage or outhouse. Many bikes to store!! (Currently spread across work/garage/shed/brothers garage)

Chris, would love to meet up, but at moment things are slightly manic - houses to sell, houses to find, holidays etc.. cheers anyhow!

Sounds like some helpful people from this part of the country :)

Wil lhead on down to the ridgway at some point for sure.
