New block and chain thoughts

I've got this in the readers MTB thread but this is probably a better place.

After another ride today I think I might look at refreshing the block and chain. They've both been on 20 yrs!!!
So what are the decent options - I'm well out of the loop on such things.

Mavic hubs, so it's screw on block only, and 7 speed, like the outgoing Sachs(I think).

Any suggestions greatly received.

Cheers,

D.

Re:

Great hubs,I had Paris Dakkar hubs and 531 hubs,I used Sachs Aris blocks BITD and they were very clunky shift wise but solid.Back then Shimano didnt do screw on Hyperglide blocks but nowadays they are pretty common and cheap.Go HG dude....

Yeah they have been blinding those Mavics. Still smooth as silk now and I don't think I've ever serviced them. Actually I fitted a Mavic BB back then and that's doing fine too.

Yes I remember that I couldn't get a screw on hyperglide at the time but was always pleased with the Sachs one.

I've had a look now so yes, I'll order an hg block shortly, and I guess a nice shiny Shimano chain to go with it.

Ive got a 7 speed shimano (can't remember the ratio) unused you can have for the cost of postage if it's any good to you

Thanks for the kind offer sir.

Is it a hyperglide one?

Also, and it pains me to ask in the face of such generosity, what colour are the cogs?

Cheers,

Will double check in a bit, it is new just without a box, accidentally bought a 7spd free wheel when i needed a cassette, I work in a bike shop so only paid trade price for it anyway.

You guys had better luck than I did with the Paris hubs. I had a rear one bitd, and the axle snapped during a race on Cannock Chase. It did run lovely otherwise though.
