New bike project. Advice needed

I can only echo elP's advice here...

The Hoss really isn't the style of bike you need if you're wanting to regain your fitness; if that is your goal you need to be out riding at least ten miles every other day, preferably with a heart rate monitor to guide you.

I think you'd find the Hoss hard work, and very disappointing, in that respect?? :?

Careful Stevo, that'll be twice we've agreed today, one more and I've no idea what might happen!

Maybe I should ask an Engineer... :p

What sort of respray are you considering? DIY rattle can job? If so I'd consider letting a shop do it. It's not so expensive. Agree this might not have been the best choice for frame given your expected riding habits but you have enough parts at this point to finish it.

I'd be a little selective on your wheelset. Shave weight where you can. Rotating weight has a more noticeable effect than stationary weight. A heavy wheelset with wire bead tires will feel sluggish compared to a a lighter wheel with a kevlar bead tire. That weight difference on your bike frame wouldn't be so noticeable.

Thanks for all the advice guys. I am though trying to keep the price down to a minimum so I'm doing all the work myself including the spraying (I've done a lot of spraying in my time). As I say, its a project that I've already got a lot of enjoyment out of because I'm doing everything myself and as far as the frame is concerned being tougher but also slightly heavier, I'm ok with that - my last bike was a Diamondback Topanga circa 1995!
