I've just bought a new XT FD-M771 front mech to put on my frame, looks a bit odd with the new spacers to fit my 28mm down tube. Just connected the cables up and when shifting from the middle to the top ring the inside of the mech gets stuck on the middle ring?? I didn't get this with my old XT front mech.

I'm running some Cook Bros e-type cranks with Syncros rings 44, 36, 24 it seems the middle ring is too large. Judging by the shimano website the min gap between top and middle rings is 12T, looks like i will have to stick a 32 on to get it working. Anyone else had this problem?

Why not raise the front mech up the seat tube a little, that way it won't foul the chainring? or am I being too simple?

It may well be that you are using 8 speed chainset and rings that are slightly wider spaced than the 9 speed, but I've never had this issue

Yep, no way you will survive with a 32T middle. Set it up so it works that ring first then try and make it work with the others. You will have to raise the mech, but that is not an issue.

Agree with the raise it up comments. Is the cage straight?

thanks for the advice, prob is an 8 speed chainset. Will try to raise the mech, i'd originally set it up according to the instructions. Put a 32 on it for now and it's working ok. To be honest prob better for me as i'm just getting back in the saddle so the easier the better at the moment.
