So, while reminiscing the times of the Bula hat craze, http://www.retrobike.co.uk/forum/viewtopic.php?t=40065

My mind wondered over to the Beenbag 'trousers' in the same vain...

Which brought me to recall being at a NEMBA at Lyme Park, think it was 92?
Where Brant Richards/Zak Tempest was standing on top of a portakabin, singing karaoke on the PA to 'Like a Virgin'....

Good times....

Anymore for anymore?

.

Did the whole NEMBA series that year and the downhill and the XC there - sadly, as I lived near by I didn't camp over... so tell me what I missed!

Honestly, that's all that I can remember without the benfit of photo's :-)

But I have a heap of photo's that I could scan from that race, I do recall seeing Jason McCroy riding the last half of the XC with no front tyre/tube, which was nice.

The NEMBAs were quality. Remember wrecking my bike riding the downhill race on the Sat at Guisborough - what was the college called? Anyway, wandered up to the Dave Yates stand as rather nervous 15 year old and asked if he'd be able to lend me a bike for the XC race the next day.

To my shock he said "no worries" and I lined up the next morning in the Youth race on a borrowed Diablo demonstrator - wasn't quite buying it when I tried for the DONKIS KNOB test bike he had there as well.

Great bike - horrible colour scheme.

Even ended up doing work experience up at M.Steel Cycles afterwards as well.....top bloke.

Eston was my favourite, there was something kinda edgy about the place, being so close to Middlesbrough and all that.

I remember turning up one year to see the police with the horses trying to keep the kids who were shooting those racing with pellet guns.

Good times........

.

I remember the Hamsterley round with the long slimy downhill through the ferns and a tedious route over the ranges at Catterick... What about the farcical Nationals at Broxa though...

Mr K

Catterick - that place was bleak, just so bleak.

And Hamsterley- have never been eaten alive by so many midges.
I remember a dude racing at Hamsterly, riding a proflex in Sport cat, with a 1inch slick back tyre "didn't need a fat tyre, as the suspension soaked it all up" - saw him at the end of the race - DNF with a broken (thinnk..) swing-arm.

I trashed my front wheel at Eston - I seem to remember there was a long grassy downhill which was very slippy in the wet. Cue a long walk back to the start line.

Catterick was my fave - all those short climbs & descents.
