Need fastener ID help to fix a VRC seatpost....

Old School Hero
I recently acquired a Tricor seatpost. Today, I was fitting a build and I decided to string up a chain and ride the project around the block with it.

As I rode the bike down a curb the saddle collapsed from under me. Braaaaaaap, I felt my butt hit the rear wheel :( This is the second time a VRC seatpost has failed me! Getting home, I found the seatpost hardware was the culprit. An aluminum dowel nut cracked under load.

Is there a 10mm dowel(?) nut out in the world to be had? Is my Tricor seatpost officially bricked by this mishap? The nut is similar to the Thomson seatpost hardware, but Thomson uses an 8.6mm dowel(?) nut. What are these things really called? I'm looking at Mcmaster Carr and can't seem to find them.

Thanks in advance!

Hi
They may also be listed as "cross dowels" B&Q or the like will keep a reasonable selection but will be zinc coated steel not alloy :?

yeah, its a 10mm x 20mm bar with a threaded hole.

thanks for the advice guys, i found some cross dowels on ebay.

i may give that a try.

no way can the the original be aluminium - you got this new or was it ebay/web purchase?

As you have discovered, you are better off/safer with a steel part, sod he extra 2g of weight.
