Coming back from a ride yesterday, went past back of local Halfords.
Must have been 25 empty bike boxes ! Shame I didn't have the car (and
nowhere to store em).

Take them. Flatten and store.
Bike shoppes have a habit of making you buy the minimum item which is usually a couple of quid or worse yet another frigging innertube :?

I take it you looked in them all just in case

Re:

Can't really flatten the ones with the big staples.
Have to say my local Halfords (that one) is great, last time I rang they said they
didn't have any but try Friday as they were having a delivery.

Turned up and they'd saved 2 boxes for me, for nothing !

I've always got bike boxes from Halfords, they're usually pretty keen to get rid of the boxes they have so try to give you loads!

Re:

I use bike boxes for most of my packing, I go round the back of the local Halfords and
take boxes from the skip. The first time I went there, I asked if I could have a box, I was
sent me round the back and told to take what I wanted. I have wondered if someone
watching the CCTV and is going to come out and ask what I am doing.

Sometimes it been raining and the lid of the skip is open[boxes are all soggy], I knock on
the back door and ask for a nice dry box, I haven't yet been turned away empty handed.

Re:

I dearly wish more people would come and ask me for bike boxes, it's a monumental pain to chop them up small enough to fit into a paper bin as well as removing staples and tape. I have to throw away an endless supply of fork dropout protectors, rear mech protectors and axle covers every single day. It seems such a waste, people nervously ask for them sometimes expecting an unhelpful reply when in reality it is great to save the hassle of disposal.
