I've four children aged between 19 and 7 my first is a boy.and although I was so careful not to make him a gun toting todler he was soon making guns out of anything without the mention of it by us.

Three more children later they have all become what one expects of each gender.

Is it the way I've brought them up or are we pre determined to being.this way

In younger children gun fascination is penis envy.

If they still exhibit that behaviour once past puberty they are either socio-paths or lesbians.

Luck of the draw.

I think your typical male likes the idea of being able to aquire one-up man ship and power over things, people nature.......guns fit that bill.

As males we are (some of us) always worried about another male being dominant over us..........so if in the back of our head we can say '' even if he is more powerful than me'' i can always get a gun, a tool, an equalizing thing then i can either defend myself or beat someone.

These are mostly just thoughts/ fantasies/comfort/security feelings that never manifest in reallity. (in most of us)

Take him to self defence classes and he'll probely loose interest in guns. :D

Most people are moulded by society.

Parents dictate to the child as to what is right or wrong within that society.

Its all pre determined unless you are part of a cult or some gated community somewhere with less 'outside' influence.

I always found it curious the way we don't want a violent society, yet children are brought up on violence via toys.

My ex step grand children, we didn't supply any toys with a violent connection for years, no toy guns and no toy soldiers, and kids cartoons featuring shooting and killing were out too, but where the hell did they get the idea from to pick up anything remotely gun shaped, make with lego or creatively munch a sandwich to take on the shape of a gun and there proceed to play by pointing and 'shooting' at each other ?

Now I understand we are a violent species, where we will kill and destroy, but are guns part of that primitive programming.

Nature could probably be blamed for some traits but nurture is a biggie imo.

And a lot of behaviour doesn't come from within the family home.

My son likes football, we've just bought his first pair of boots, shin pads etc.. he didn't get that from me or the Wife. We can't stand the game.
