NAD hifi equipment - tell me about them

NAD is great stuff and it's not outrageously expensive. Clean understated styling. I've always been a fan.

NAD kit is excellent quality, looks are not its strong point but where it matters top notch.

Not at all bad - was in every student's bedsit in the 80s.

Had a NAD cd player for a good few years - very acceptable. Not high end by a long way, but decent kit as has been said already.

NAD or New Acoustical Dimension

they are ok, myself, having mixed it with the big boys, find this stuff a bit like a Diamond Back Topanga, or a Kona Hahanna, a bit cheap and cheerful.

Their late 1970's 3020 integrated amplifier beat a lot of expensive stuff and made them famous.

Very similar to brands like Rotel/ Technics/ Pioneer/ Kenwood/ Sansui/ JVC.

Not known for their tape decks though.

79/80 I think, there are at least 5 versions, 3020i, 3020e etc.


Knowing whats inside most stuff, for 'good' hifi, you needed to spend about £500 to get anything decent.

NAD are good wholesome bits of kit, the tape-decks were never anything particularly special though, the decks with "Play Trim" a basic azimuth adjustment feature were the better of the bunch and easily on a par with the well reviewed (read that as they bribed What Hi-Fi magazine by taking loads of advertising space / give out freebies to staff) Sony TCK-611s or the Yamaha decks of the early 90's

Nakamichi, Studer Revox, Tandberg, High end Aiwa, and the very rare Arcam Delta were the daddies of the Compact cassette.

Don't know about tape deck but love NAD stuff. Have 2 of their amps, a surround receiver and dvd-a/sacd player. Upgrade to surround receiver will also be NAD.
