Mystery Dawes

Can anyone help identify my late Dad’s beloved Dawes?

I watched it being stripped down & repainted in 1974, any transfers/decals were lost then and possibly some components replaced then or later. Head badge is present - see photos.

https://dawescycles.wordpress.com/portfolio/head-badge-timeline/ suggests 1947 onwards, which would fit with his age if he got it new, but I’d love to identify the exact year, model and it’s original colour.

Serial looks to me like LG1909.

Happy to take more pics of any other areas that might help.

Wishing I’d asked Dad when I still had the chance :-(

Hello Susie and thanks for sharing your fathers bicycle.

Unfortunately many Dawes records have been lost so serials can be a challenge.

Your headplate diagnostic is on the money; appears to date from the immediate postwar years of late forties through early fifties.

Readers would be able to give more and better assistance with further pictures of the mount.

Views which would be helpful include complete bicycle, fork crown area, bottom bracket area, chainset & headset.

Thank you for posting.

Hi Susie, a long shot. Have you looked through your family's historic photos? Maybe a friend of your father took a picture of him and the bike? Maybe date from the photo or at least narrow it down.
Careful rubbing down of the paint can reveal old colour schemes and transfers. Some of which will certainly date or identify the model. Unless your father took it back to bare metal when he repainted it. The fork steerer is a good place to look for original paint as is inside the bottom bracket shell.
I hope this helps.
