Mystery 8-speed cassette/ Campy for HG body?

Years ago I bought a wheelset for a Gary Fisher HKEK build.
This one:

The wheelset came with an 8-speed cassette on the Shimano HG freehub. The owner told me he used the wheelset on his indoor trainer.
The cassette in question:

When I refreshed my Bianchi Kuma mountainbike a few months ago, I decided to install this cassette as it seemed fairly new. But the drivetrain never stopped ratlling as if wanting to shift gears. After checking the derailleur alignment several times I decided to inspect the cassette. Here's where it gets interesting.

I took it completely apart by unscrewing the 3 2mm allen bolts from the back.

The gearing is 11-12-14-16-18-21-24-28.
The spacers are 2.8mm thick, instead of the usual 3mm shimano spacing for 8-speed
The cogs are around 1.7 / 1.75mm thick.
So following the cassette specs in this table, this would equate to a campagnolo 9-speed cassette

Which got me thinking, this must be a 9-speed campagnolo cassette with the 13t sprocket removed. This would mean the 13t sprocket was a loose one like the 11t and 12t. I don't think it's a hodgepodge since the 3 allen bolts are the correct length and the thread is in the 14t sprocket.

However, was there ever a campagnolo cassette made for a Shimano HG body? I can't seem to find anything online.
Engraved in the sprockets is RG- "tooth count", except in the 21t cog, it is RH-G21T.

The lockring states: U.S. PAT. 5545096
TAIWAN RECON

Or is this something completely different?
Any takers?

Wow. I thought these were all gone. I haven't seen or heard of anyone selling a campy spaced/Shimano splined cassette in ages.
I use a JTek shiftmate on my Campy 10s bicycle. The JTek is a lil futzy to setup but it shifts a Shimano 10s cassette perfectly.

I know that back in the day the neutral support cars in road races were able to carry just one type of rear wheel because 9s spacing is close enough between Campy and Shimano. It's strange to see someone running an 8 of 9 setup though. Usually I see the 8 of 9 setup with a bicycle running a Dura Ace 7400 rear derailleur.

Aha, so it is 'a thing' to set these up 8 of 9. Glad to know my extrapolation might be correct. Thank you for sharing/ clearing this up.
But I fear this cassette will be useless with the missing cog. So thank god for shiftmates.

The Jtek is awesome. I love mine. I prefer Campy's shifter shape and it opens up a lot more options for cassette ranges for me and I really appreciate having a 11-28 cassette. I ride my road bike on most of the same routes as they did on the Colorado sections of the Coors Classics from the 80's. So having both the 11 & 28 gears are crucial. It sucks that Campagnolo only gives you a choice of either a 13/14-28 or like a 11-23/25 for 10s. I'm normally in the 13-14 on the flats, so I'd spin out with Campy's "MTN"cassette or grind myself into oblivion in a 23/25.

I also kinda remember reading that you can run the 8 of 9 to get 8 speed on a 7 speed freehub. I wonder if that's what is going on with your's??? I have bought dead rear wheels/hubs and scavenged the freehubs and switched all my 7s hubs to 8-10s. Although I'd imagine your bike would be a 8-10 hub.
