Yes Ribble bought these frames in and built them up with various groups/options. Date wise 1996/97/98. The R4 was, I think, 6061 aluminium which was the same as the road alloy frames they did from the same era. Taiwan sourced and nice quality. There was also an R8 which was Reynolds 853. Interestingly Ribble used different font graphics for their mtb range which I preferred to their standard road bike graphic font.
I had one of these, bought it for the P2 forks. (TB ahead) After removing the forks for another project I fitted a set of Mozo pros which were the same colour. Rode it for a bit then moved it on. From what I remember it was very nice to ride. If I hadn’t been offered silly money I’d have probably kept it. The frame was almost identical to an Orange E3, only difference being that the rear derailleur cable ran under the seat stay rather than on top. The frame number was even the same layout. Same factory????
