it's ok, but not up to scratch

there is a weld at the top of the seat tube that's been done badly, i'm gonna grind it back, maybe get Ben Cooper at Kinetics to fill it up with brass instead, it's supposed to be all lovely smooth fillets!

certainly not a lightweight frame either, it's a tough old beastie!

seat post got clamped in the vice so i could use the frame to twist itself off the post which was jammed.

water in the seat tube and water in the handlebars would you believe?! :facepalm:

Shame about the water, but as long as its salvageable then all's well.
That water is some destructive element that's for sure

so, i blow-torched off the brushed-on paint that had been used to hide the weld done by the alleged "specialist bike welder", and sanded it back a little, and this is how it looks..... proper fugly!!!! :shock:

there's no way that's staying, so it's getting boxed up and sent down to Ben Cooper @ Kinetics in Glasgow, he's gonna work some magic on it, and i'll get it powder-coated while it's with him

only had it home a couple of days and off it goes again........... :facepalm:

Quite amusing remarks. An old fella who was totally blind used to weld tractors up in Caithness. He could diagnose engine issues as you approached his yard from a mile down the road.

was supposed to be gloss black with a sparkle top coat, but hey, i like grey, it will match nicely with my other grey Alves!
