My 'new' Raleigh

Far be it from me to dispute RK's facts but this site states that Worksop closed in 1981 and that Raleigh carried on using the W prefix even then.Mark.

Hi Mark.

I did state clearly, and have done many times in the past on RB that Raleigh continued to use the W prefix after Worksop closed.

Jerry Mortimore has not updated the Carlton site in years and last time I heard, it was for sale.

Should I refer you to my published article on the subject :) ?

Hi RK,
I have a memory a goldfish would be ashamed of so apols for you having to repeat yourself.

Reading through this thread again have I got it straight? This is a Nottingham built frame from November 1981.

No offence meant buddy.

As far as I'm aware yes, it is a Nottingham frame: I would rather not commit myself to a date (see comments) until better images are posted.

It's just that my W prefix frame was bought new (by me) in 1984 and can only be a 1984 as it was only prodcued in"my"colour for that year.

Hence my comment re frame dating - don't even get me on the subject of SBDU dating :) !

Regards, Rk.

No offence taken RK. I think what I take from this thread and lots of others relating to Raleighs is that I will never buy another Raleigh frame or if I do I'll try not to worry about dating it! What a nightmare.

I'm sure Old Ned will furnish us with some close ups when he gets back from his hill-climb training.

What parts of the frame would you like to see John? I can crop and resize sections of the (very large!) originals.

Sorry to be a nuisance but could I have a pic of that milremo stem, particularly the bit where the stem bolt goes..... I have an unbranded stem bought from a rep (reps were a great source of bits) which I always thought was a Nitto but it looks like yours :D

Thanks

Shaun
