Somerset Bike Centre in Weston-super-Mare will be closing on September 13th.... a very sad day for me.

I bought my daughter her first proper mtb from Dave, before he even had the shop in Weston, she was about eight or ten. She is now thirty and rides just about every day.

I have bought thousands of pounds worth of bits and accessories over the years. All the parts for my Zaskar came from SBC, as did my STS-2. Recently, with my rekindling of interest, thanks in part to this site, many parts for my retro builds have come from the shop.

I'll pop in this week as I have a BB I need taking out of a frame and I don't have the right tool, and it's cheaper for them to do it than for me to buy a tool I'll only use once (Campag).

It will be a sad day when Dave finally closes the door and retires, a very sad day.

He's done well if he can retire happy from it.

He can get out and ride now :-)

Bollix to him, what about ME?

It is the only proper bike shop in the area, we will be left with a Halfords and a huge bicycle mega store.

I am hopeful the manager Ian and maybe some of the staff may start something of their own, I will ask when I pop in.

I know how the feeling is when a decent shop is to close! Edison Cycles was a great shop for me but the
owner had worked seven days a week running the shop and making frames & wheels for 40 years and
he'd decided enough was enough, so he sold up and moved permanently to France.

Re:

That's pretty much it.

Dave has been open over 20 years and this was his second career as he previously worked for the BBC.

I wish him a long and happy retirement, but it's still sad.

Don't forget Badass Bikes in Burrington.

Re:

Badass: I had forgotten about them, mostly because they are a half hour drive from home... and so is Bristol.

Megastore: The Bicycle Chain have moved into what was Morse Motorcycles two storey premises (near B&Q).
