Was feeling sorry for my KHS Montana Pro - my first race bike when I was 16.

Got the frame resprayed a few years ago and build it up with some light parts. XTR, RC31 forks, etc. Was great riding it again.

But then found this site, and in the space of two years have a more bikes than I know what to do with :) Including my Pace RC300 which is my main cross country bike now.

So the KHS was reduced to being my "loaner" - bike that mates always got given when they wanted to borrow a mountain bike. All came back loving it, but I still didnt really ride it.

Anyway, been looking for a singlespeed bike to commute on and decided to convert the KHS instead of buying something new.

And here's the result - quite pleased

Build:

KHS Montana Pro frame (1994?) - True Temper OX tubing I think
Pace RC31 forks
Hope Pro2 trials hubs/Mavic 321 disc rims
Tioga Revolver cranks
Middleburn singlespeed chainring
Slinky 1/2 link chain
Easton seatpost (to be replaced by Syncros Ti when I find the box its in!)
Battered Flite transalp (only original part from when I originally rode it)
Syncros road stem (1'')
Syncros flat bars (need to be cut down - just haven't decided how narrow yet)
ODI lock on grips
Cane Creek bar end things
Conti City Contact Tyres

To come - front Hope Mini disc brake (not running a rear brake for now)

Anyone got any original Crud Catcher race guard they want to part with - you know the one with the side stays down on the the rear dropout rack bolts and up on the brake stay, rather then the new ones that clamp onto the seatpost? Had one and think it would look best on this build.

nice build. the drop stem will make it totally different to ride!

my dad has a 94 khs sat in his shed but he wont let me play with it!

Yeah - i thought as much about the stem. Basically its on there to fit in with the London fixie fad and look a bit different. If it tries to kill me I might go back to a normal rise :)
