Hi all;

this was the first 'retro' bike i worked on when i joined the forum. to my memory ive never made a build thread so ive compiled a bunch of pics from my Pinkbike profile, they are circa 2008/2009. i was only 16 or 17 then so please be kind

this was the frameset when i bought it, the graphics were faded/ missing, and the paintwork was bad


so i took it down to argos cycles with a set of gil_m's graphics and i remember i blew all of my £180 tax rebate from halfords on the respray but this was the result

time after time we are seeing cheapo powder coat jobs done buy there mate with shite parts on.

its a nice , as it would have been ride.

It really is a credit to Argos cycles, their paint wasn't very tough though and chipped easily. They might of improved it by now though

That's one of the drawbacks with wet spraying it's not as durable as powder coat. Clear coating a frame 2 or 3 times with baking and prep in between each coat would help but is costly to do.

Really like that prestige, interesting regarding Argos cycles with the paint job not being particularly tough, it looks great, but durability is important, I was thinking of using them for a respray. Anyway fantastic bike, that particular colour and year of prestige is on my bucket list!

I spoke to the chaps at Argos a little while ago and they told me they do a 2 pack enamel which is tougher, but at extra cost (I don't know if this is new or not) Credit where it's due though, it was an outstanding quality paintjob and the bike looked brand new again. The graphics were modified by Gil_m using 94 clockwork graphics because he didn't have the prestige on file... Was just a bit frustrating that new paintwork costing over £200 chipped so easily
