My End of Year Awards Thread

Retrobike Rider
Here's some personal end-the-year awards nonsense...

Event of the Year - Mountain Mayhem - our show stand and haphazard riding...

Racer of the Year - tied between Super Strong's first lap heroics; ededwards' relentless solo Scotch egg eating marathon; and Wu-tangled's guilt lasy laps - all at MM.

Thread writer of the Year - Wu-tangled (I sometimes feel we are all Wu's therapists... :-) )

Retrocrasher of the Year - Hilts (ably backed by his understudy, MadCowKev...)

From our Foreign Correspondent - proving that less is nearly always more, Repack Rider

Retrobike Big Achiever Award - to the site itself, for attracting over 1,000 new readers in 2007!

Retro Fashionista of the Year - MadCowKev for THAT skinsuit...

Thread of the Year - The Five Steps of Retrobiking (so far) by Lid

Feel free to add your own seasonal commendations....

Mr K

Ok, I'll certainly have a bash ()

Event of the Year - boring but has to be Mountain Mayhem, my first Retrobike event and a great 'retro' buzz. Honourable mentions too to The Peaks, the Real Ale Wobble and Cannock

Racer of the Year - has to be Superstrong for that first lap at MM, leading out the pros on the Overburys

Thread starter of the Year - Wu-tangled, always entertaining, often philosophical.

Retrocrasher of the Year - it wasn't a crash but seeing SpeshMike chest deep in a freezing river has to take it, if only for the scant regard he paid to his headset and family jewels. Why Mike, why?

From our Foreign Correspondent - Rody for endless sound advice

Retrobike Big Achiever Award - the Meets in general, 30 odd riders (some very odd) rocking the retro

Retro Fashionista of the Year - Repack Rider in his Velo Club Tamalpais jersey

Thread of the Year - The Five Steps of Retrobiking (so far) by Lid (must admit had't remembered this but revisited it and it's superb)

Apologies that many are the same as Mr. K's!

I haven't been around long enough to really know, but if there's been a better writer or a better quote than this please tell me what they were:

Best quote - Reepack Rider "Some guys my age are old"

Event of the Year - Mountain Mayhem - Changed my life.

Racer of the Year - SuperStrong - Legend on an old bike. Close second, EdEdwards for not patronising me or crushing me like a worm when I said "I'll scoot ahead now, gotta get back for Heathy" only to be caught up within metres by the solo singlespeeding scotch egg eating champ when it was obvious he was faster and stronger than me. Third...? Heathy for having the good grace to not tell me off when my last lap time blew his chances of another lap at MM. Now that's sportsmanlike behaviour.

Thread writer of the Year - Cannondale King - I'd read anything he wrote and even if I couldn't understand it, I'd probably laugh.

Retrocrasher of the Year - Hilts, but I reckon next year his mantle will be under threat by Kev.

From our Foreign Correspondent - Ameybrook. Reading his posts is like
actually living in Durango. Always makes me jealous. And the pictures...

Retrobike Big Achiever Award - The community as a whole. Here's to all of us for holding it together and keeping this ever growing globe of wonderment as friendly as when we respectively discovered it.

Retro Fashionista of the Year - MadCowKev for THAT skinsuit... - Yup, seconded. Quite an image, especially when splayed out across the Peaks like a flouro doormat.

Thread of the Year - The Five Steps of Retrobiking (so far) by Lid. Yup, seconded. Great involving and entertaining thread.

:D

Hey! not many member getting members in two categories :D

Hilts and I crash so much as we're always 100% committed, although I maintain I only stacked at Cannock for the cameras and your entertainment.

Fashionista? - you're all just jealous of my style. This year will be matching bikes and team kits at retro meets. Jango will be a contender 8)

I'll nominate 'Heathy' , 'Retrobikeguy' , jes as with out him i would have had to wait longer to get a Trimble (and would have had to pay more) For a black frame (thats not black any more  )
The Salvage tech for don't know really. For being The Salvage Tech.
And all in my 'user group' for making mtbing fun again.

And 'two fingers' to those who don't reply to 'pm'
