My 1997 Trek 930 SingleTrack - Ice Green

Cool...
I have the same bike from the same year but with RS Indy C on it.
I too like the rear mech, never had a problem with it.
Nice looking :)

That is a nice looking bike and I really like the colour however the purist in me suggests that there are a few things I'd want to change.

Firstly I'm with FluffyChicken on the front mech. Has to be a compact drive mech, preferably an STX or STX-RC one like these:

They are still pretty easy to get hold of, NOS and at a good price. They turn up all the time on eBay as well as within the stocks of many LBS.
STX is a great groupset. Simple and reliable and perfect for this bike.

Secondly, Im really not keen on those Deore cranks. Big ugly and black lumps on this bike. Again I'd keep it close to the original spec with STX or STX-RC. Like the ones below they are still to be found fairly easily.

(apologies for the poor picture)

Finally, I'd change the grips as red and green should never be seen.

Other than that I do really quite like it...

That's a very nice bike. I have the exact same model, bought off ebay just 2 years ago from the original owner, a pro racer. Best £130 I ever spent ($200).

All stock parts, Shimano STX RC, Parallax hubs and Guru rims, except for tyres and tubes. It even has a STX headset that my LBS had lying around.

Had to change the brakes over for use in England (left rear). I use it for commuting to the station but absolutely love it. Like yours mine polishes up very nicely but I sadly have to leave it grubby to deter thieves as it's parked up all day.

I still ride trails on it and it's just as fun and quick as my FS Kona, probably because I started mtb-ing on a Trek 950 in '93.

i've actually done a fair amount of work on this bike now. got some pace rc36 pro class forks (titanium nitride jobbies) from 1997 and some ritchey carbon bars, ritchey stem, fsa aheadset (got rid of that threaded junk), thomson elite seatpost and union jack titanium san marco saddle.

also gone for black hope hubs built onto black X517 rims with black spokes. so, a fair bit period correct..

if i can find some pics, I'll post them up...
