My 1941 Elgin skip tooth bomber to be.

After completing my 36 Mercury and being incredibly satisfied with the results it was not long before I felt the need to start another project. I saw this old girl in a Craigslist ad. The cell phone photos in the ad didn't tell me much but the price was low so I made a call and took a drive. As I drove up I saw the old man rummaging around in his garage. I saw the bike leaning against the wall and I was instantly taken by the shape. Looking closer I saw the paint was not original and quite poorly done but the frame was straight with little rust. The brazing and metal work is so smooth and the parts were mostly original. I was actually glad the paint was not original because I won't feel bad about repainting it. Anyway, here it is as I found it:

I intend to rebuild as a skip tooth bomber, keeping it simple using many of the original parts. I have been polishing, sanding, and having stuff re-chromed for a few weeks. All thats left is a little paint and we will be ready to start building. Here are the parts:

That's going to look fantastic when complete. What are you planning to do with the saddle spring?

Wow, looks very nice already just the parts alone.

Shame we havent had those kind of bikes in Holland, the more I see the more I like these ones.

Cheers,
Martin

I may be wrong, but a quick look at the chainring indicates where the skip tooth most likely comes from ;)

Wow. That frame is beautiful. I'm guessing it's steel, but how are the joins done at the chainstays/bottom bracket and seat stays/top tube.
It looks better made than most modern bikes (and I mean like post 1970 modern). A true work of art.

that is going to be stunning.

what are you doing for paint?

would look great with an understated finish with all that brightwork
