It is after all £20,833 a month, i just about scrape that a year and i'm financially secure

£250k pa is just over £11k a month, if they pay tax.

Still a lot of money, but in reality someone with a salary of 250,000 is only taking home 140,000.

And many of us live on that 11k in one year.

If it's PAYE, I thought it was pretty tricky to be tax efficient.

So, they're paying 110k a year in tax, 80k for school fees. Let's say they have a modest mortgage costing 2k a month (approx 400k loan?)

They've just spent 214k, leaving 36k to feed, clothe and transport 5 people. Yes, it's plenty of money with the right lifestyle choices, but not the lifestyle they're expecting when pulling down a quarter of a million a year.
