Mtbr.com

I flag up things on ebay etc quite often on retrobike and one or two people have said 'shhhh!' (no stronger than that I have to say), but far more people have said great thanks, never saw that and now I have the bike I was after.
Yep its good to flag up e-bay gems. Couple of times people have thanked me for high lighting kit. And i've been very happy that people have done the same. Its how i bought a Bullseye hub. woulldn't have seen it. Thanks to retrobikeguy.
If some people don't like it then tough. This is a forum enjoy it for what it is :D

I frequent the political blogs as well as the bike sites. Any vitriol I encounter on MTBR VRC is so lightweight by comparison that I was truly under the impression that VRC is a polite, reasoned discourse.

You have to remember that people often start a sentence here with: "I'm sorry...."
Like: "I'm sorry is this seat taken?" Or: "I'm sorry was this Bitch yours?"
Its all very pleasant really.

"less is more as mies van der rohe once said."

A qoute taken out of context possibly?

...and a quote mis-used perhaps...?

Don't think important words like that should be used in such an irrelevant context.

Reminds me of how estate agents have bastardised a language with the mis-use of words:

unique
exclusive
luxury
artists impression

etc...

Despite the fact that I do love MTBR, this is a prime example of why I never really want to post on it and why they'll never attract new members in the same way that we do. This thread seems to cover most of peoples negative comments about MTBR (mostly perpetrated by the usual over-zealous characters who spoil MTBR for me), though it was nice to see that the arsiness was nipped in the bud and the thread closed:

never understood why people get shitty about 'outing' things on mtbr, for gods sake its a country of 301 million people and everyone on that forum still thinks they're the only on who's ever seen an advert on ebay or CL, the fact that we have an entire section of this site dedicated to outing shows that it's a thing of good surely? I've found more stuff through that than I'd ever find on my own.

Oh and Rumpfy, I think you'll find that your google fight was slightly out, we actually kick your arse  ...

http://googlefight.com/index.php?lang=en_GB&word1=mtbr.com+vcr&word2=retrobike.co.uk

Thats because you posted 'vcr' and not 'vrc'....though its all in how you spin the battle. :D

I can't say I'm all that thrilled with the way the recent series of threads went down. By and large, its a pretty relaxed environment there. Especially compared to forums like Passion and the 29'er forum.

The regulars who frequent the forum are who make that forum what it is. They've got their inside jokes and have developed their own series of unwritten 'rules' which, if you're not familiar with them, you'll get called on it. I don't think its a bad thing. Its community.
It may look to you guys like its every man for themselves, but its far from it. We/they protect our own and help each other out a great deal.
I've made some very close, loyal friends from the VRC.

I like Retrobike...but I do have some opinions that would most likely hurt your sensibilities.
But don't worry, I don't feel the need to start a 'why mtbr vrc is better than retrobike.co.uk' thread.

Each web site has its place/use in the big scheme of things on the web. mtbr is a good place to find out about Trimble clan :(

But both my computers have a hard time with the ads on mtbr my vintage mark iMac goes potty. mtbr has ads that are high energy. Were as the ads on retrobike are just a picture.

I was going to add my $.02 to this discussion but Rumpfy just summed it up for me. I feel almost identical..

..however, when I got into the VRC game my interests at the time swayed towards the RB site (Hot Rod vs. period correct). Now my interests are slightly different, but I feel more at home in this community simply because I've spent more time here.

There is a wealth of knowledge over at MTBR that is unrivaled. Trust me, I search the internet ALOT, and you can learn more about old bikes in one half hour than you can in a whole day elsewhere. Just do a search for posts from some of the 'ballers' over there and you'll see.

All i can say Thanks too EDDIE JONES on 'mtbr' you ended my year on a BIG high. Their good people in the world.
