MTB STi with road calipers?

I need to knock up a flat-barred road bike.

I've got some old LX brake-gear flat-barred STis - designed for canti brakes. Will these work with normal road caliper brakes?

dont see why not. My fixed wheel trainer is an mtb frame with 700C road forks, a weineman centrepull road front caliper and flat bars & all works ok.
Mrs used to have a roadbike and I put on flat bars and controls and that was ok too.

they will work with normal brakes.

you might have shifting issues with the front mech if using a road mech as the cable pull is slightly different. it can be sorted via a trip to sheldon brown's website.
