Mtb or road bike brake cable

Re:

Road brake cable has a different end to fit into the levers. Mtb cables have a circular end, road a sort of rounded top hat.

Ultimately if your bike had mtb levers of any sort, it will be using mtb cable.

Not sure if there are exceptions.

Re:

Barrel ended cables for sure on those. In fact most flat bar levers will have these - drop bar levers are the ones that more than often have the pear type/top hat type fitment.

The only flat bar lever I've come across to date that used the pear was a Magura parking brake, that I use on the cargo bike. If in doubt you can always buy the universal cables that have the two different fittings on opposite ends - just chop off the one that you don't need (doesn't fit) when installing.

Hope this helps a bit more :)
