I've decided for my 40th (next May) I would like to have a custom frame built. It'll be a 29er, rigid singlespeed (maybe with geared options) - pretty much like my Surly Karate Monkey but better fitting and perhaps better tubing. I'd like a nice paint job too.
However - who to make it? I'm looking to spend good money (£1000-£1500 frame/forks).
My first thought was Rody (Groovycycleworks) - but with the distance I was concerned about correct sizing and 'feel' without being able to see them/it in person as it's being built. That and the 20 month waiting list. But I know I could trust him to do what I want I think.
How about in the UK though? Who is capable to understanding how MTB frames (particularly 29ers) should be custom built and what tubing to use to make it exactly how I want it? And is sufficiently close that I can get the right sizing etc.
There can't be many with that experience. Even Dave Yates hasn't really done many if any 29ers.
Any thoughts?
