MOUNTAIN BIKE ( READ MANITOU ) !!!!!!!!!!!!

you can stop cracks from growing by drilling a hole at the end of crack, this is common when engineers find small cracks on air craft wings,

we learn about this stuff in engineer lectures at uni,

just depends if the remaining material can sustain the stresses and strains,
it would be pretty easy to weld a plate onto the front of the head tube,

same thought process as me ............ ?

crap listing .....

going to go cheap ............

what am i goint to do with a cracked manitou ........................ ??????????

Yup- De Havilland Comet had square window corners, and after a few of them crashed, they discovered the phenomenon of metal fatigue........later rediscovered by Manitou, as we see!! Anyone ever come across an uncracked one of these? I'd get one like a shot- classic early suspension idea.

I wouldn't drill holes to stop it cracking I think you'd have to grind it out perhaps fill with weld and grind again so there are no nasty stress raisers. How the aluminium etc would deal with the heat and stuff I have no clue.

This is a little bit like work so I don't feel so guilty about posting!!!!

It way past drilling a hole, this wouldn't keep the top part of the headset in place.

If your going to weld it at least it's 7005 Aluminium, so doesn't actually need to be heat treated after, as it will naturally age harden after a couple of weeks.
