Mountain Bike Centre Ideas?

Re:

Kippers is my usual poison when on tour. Failing that, Smoked Salmon Eggs Benedict.

Failing that, a few mouthfuls of Dusky Young Maiden tends to sweep the cobwebs aside.

One of our best friends, who lives with us, is a sports masseur as well as a physiotherapist, she can cover just about all bases. She is also one hell of a climber and ski-er. I envisage sauna and massage as the ideal end to a day on the hills. Whipping with branches optional.

Re:

That looks fantastic, and great value for money! Thanks. Real food for thought. I doubt we could match that. The one place that sparked our interest is up for sale at the moment, so will likely be gone long before we have the finances in place. By which time we may have moved our ideas on. Hope not though.

Re:

A full English breakfast with a proper vegetarian option please and served all day if your doing a café style part to the business.

I'd not worry about bike hire, the vast majority of people who go to a trail have a bike, and hire bikes take such a hammering they take a lot to maintain.

B&B, make it clean comfortable and fresh, if your not going to get 3 star or above don't be rated as I don't look at less than a 3 but if the pictures look nice I'll use an unrated B&B.

Just my two pence worth. Good luck.

Re:

Having stayed in a wide variety of places with my mates on our regular lads biking trips, the 3 essentials are....
1. Decent beds (and not as many as possible crammed into each room).
2. A good breakfast.
3. Good showers.

We stayed with a company called Mud Trek, in Wales, a few years ago.
What they offered looked perfect for us. It was advertsied as being like the catered chalet service you get in lots of ski resorts, which we all do as a group in the winter.
All food was provided and we were taken out on one guided ride over our weekend stay.
I was really excited when I found the place. It was a lot more money per head than we usually spent (about £150 each for the weekend I think) but everything was included so only beer tokens required.
The place was in an area we love riding (Brechfa) and I thought we would become regular customers.
I was wrong!
When we arrived we couldn't believe how small the accommodation was. There were 10 of us and we were crammed into 2 really small rooms, with some people being given worn out camp beds to sleep on and one of the party having to kip on a sofa bed.
There was one bathroom (which was right next to the poor bugger on the sofa bed!).
The owners weren't there when we arrived so we had no way of complaining until the following morning.
When we raised the sleeping issues (one of the camp beds had collapsed during the night) we were told to "man the **** up"!!
On top of this, the food was mediocre at best and the guided ride we did was a load of bollox.

My long term plan is to do something similar to what mud-trek do, but to do it properly and in The Alps.
I just need to somehow make £200K in the next 10 years

Well our aim is to have a business that works in a location accessible to our families. Day to day management for someone else, pretty much a hands off approach long term. More about lifestyle than making money.

Family background very successful in hotels and letting, so we have a good idea how to go about things and make it work.

Being up in the Highlands makes offering bike rental pretty obvious, given the convenience of flying up with no vehicle.

Ho hum, probably won't happen like most of our ideas. Wife is off now working on theatre costumes, and perhaps we will just give in and stay in London for a while.
