thanks for last tip but my bike's code is:
M60IA1000
the 6 agrees with Muirwoods
the 0 must mean it's a 1990??
but I'm wondering where the size details fit in..

In case you know your retro Marins well, it's a bright yellow frame and forks, bars and stem, with random splatterings of different colours all over. forks have 'rockstar hi-ten' decals but not 'marin' down the legs like later models.

were these older bikes measured centre to centre on the seat tube, rather than centre to top?

Glad that was of help and Marins measure C to C.

Always seems to be an awful lot of large size ones for some reason, far more than other brands or is it just me that thinks that way.

I agree - also Marins tended to get used a lot for all-day events like Polaris Challenge etc, which maybe favours a bigger frame.
