Purchased the weekend. Basically original and with very very little miles. Plans are to upgrade from LX to XT/XTR and then make it mine.

Beautifully welded frame!!!!

So I’ve decided the “make it mine” will be to create a bike that colour wise is a 10 year on Tomac colour tribute. I hated the orange decals though I did try to like them!!!

Based on all components being the same colour and components being the 1999 equivalent. The build will be correct grips, a play on the decals and the fork (yet to be decided) sprayed the same colours. There will be pink instead of the lower fork red though…I’m not a fan of the red.

Going to be interesting to see what it looks like!!!

Build is happening as I just purchased the pink/green odi attack grips as in the photo.

Removed the awful stem, it’s the equivalent of a modified Japanese car’s exhaust!

Switches the chainset, front mech and shifters to XT M750. Rear mech is a M952 I ruined by putting it in degreaser for too long and it stripped the colour.

Stem is a Controltech and I really like the rise as it replicates the rise on the Tomac bike. Bars are Titec titanium but I think I need to swap them out for black bars. Easton seatpost that matches the colour of the frame but will need to be all black. Did try a Raceface crank on it but didn’t like it for some reason.

Weights gone from near 25lb to nearer 22.8lb .

Found some Crossmax Gen 1 wheels on FB for a great price so nabbed them for this project. Turn out to be basically new and with no rim wear or pitting!

Decals have been tweaked with Gil and are on there way.

Next how to blend the colour of the tubes where the stickers have been which have left a different shade of titanium.
