Mongoose Iboc Ti by Merlin!!!!!!!!!!!!!

There was a full titanium version as well. I have seen too. There is a Tomac ad where he is getting air on a titanium version with a nice RWB Accutrax.

hi folks, this is my ebay listing, like you said its not full ti, i've changed the add, as stated above it is all ti except for the seat stays and dropouts,it does seem like an odd idea!!!! its all as it was sold, its not a period build only a few odds and sods have changed like bars and tires.

As mentioned above I do lurk here from time to time, I'm also the guy that sold the kona King kahuna prototype frame that I think went to someone on here,

Havefun guys and don't miss this one, she's special!

Wasn't aware they were renowned for failing. To be fair the one my friend had was well abused, often deliberately and as far as I recall survived intact well into the late 90s.

The failures weren't out in the field, more in the factory when they couldn't get the two ends to stay together. There was a big 'wastage' rate before they left the factory. What I remember most from the add was the big pile of frames left rusting outside and me thinking 'that's a shame, I'll have one'!

The seatstay from the wishbone down is steel as are the chainstays for 2/3 inches after the dropout. Did seem like an odd idea, cool but odd!

I remember this bike : merlin titanium for the main triangle, cromo for the rear

I like the dropouts- they are typical of Merlin but done in steel. I would be dead keen on this if it was a size bigger.

ya see, thats why i put a link to you guys, I know a bit but someone somewhere always knows the finer details about things on here!!!

it obviously is ti. And those chainstay welds at the dropout are obviously merlin.

But why does the underside / bottom of the wishbone appear to have rust on it?

Wu, have you read the rest of this thread? The front triangle and chainstays are ti, the seatstays, dropouts and wishbone are steel bonded onto the ti - hence the rust. The dropouts are probably not made by Merlin but by mongoose as they are the bonded steel part - keep up at the back!
