modern mtb value depreciation

Do you really need to buy another bike?.

The answer is always no. In fact one bike or no bike if you can borrow one is enough.

.....but you know it is not like that says the man who has just bid and won yet another proflex....

Depends entirely on the bike.

If you are buying a kona, giant and the like, then they will be 30-40% off new price at the end of the bike year when next year's models are out, so you will be buying a rapidly depreciating bike straight away, unless you buy in said sale.

If you buy something less mainstream and (sometimes) better regarded, then you will be in a better position. Think whyte 900 series which are selling second hand for a £850 minimum when only £1100 new 18 months ago.
